A practical tractor maintenance log
Tractors often accumulate operating hours without traveling many miles. Recording service by engine hours and date makes maintenance history more useful than memory alone.
Record engine hours at service
Write down the hour-meter reading every time you perform maintenance. Include the date, tractor identification and the work completed so you can find the previous service later.
Keep the actual parts and fluids
Save filter part numbers, fluid specifications, quantities and receipts. Refer to the tractor's service manual for the correct products and intervals rather than assuming all tractors use the same schedule.
Separate routine service from repairs
Routine fluid changes and inspections are different from troubleshooting a breakdown. Capture both in the log so you have a complete picture when a problem returns.
Use date and operating-hour reminders
Depending on the maintenance item, service may come due after a time interval, an engine-hour interval, or whichever happens first. Follow the manufacturer's service schedule for your exact machine.
