Eggsy: a detailed guide to tracking eggs, flocks, hens and feed costs
Keeping chickens involves a lot more than counting eggs. You may have several coops, different breeds, individual hens to keep track of, feed expenses and production changes from season to season. Eggsy brings those everyday records together in one friendly Android app.
A fast daily egg log and calendar history
Eggsy starts with the action most backyard keepers perform every day: recording the number of eggs collected. A calendar-based interface makes it easy to add a count and review when production rose, dipped or stayed steady.
Consistent records are more useful than memory. If production drops unexpectedly, you can look back for patterns rather than guessing when the decline began. Day-specific notes let you record context such as a coop change, unusual weather or a particular event affecting the flock.
To get useful trends, log zero-egg days too instead of silently skipping them when possible.
Multiple flocks, coops and poultry types
If you have two coops or separate groups of birds, combining all your records into one number hides useful differences. Eggsy helps organize multiple coops and flocks, keeping their details separate.
The product page describes support for chickens as well as other backyard poultry such as ducks, quail, turkeys, guineas and geese. This lets you use a consistent record-keeping approach while keeping different groups identifiable.
Each flock can have its own roster and related information, making management more practical as your setup grows.
Individual hen records and important dates
Track birds as individuals rather than just a headcount. Save hen details such as breed, age and notes, with important hatch and cull dates in the record. This helps you maintain a clearer picture when birds join, mature or leave your flock.
Eggsy also includes the playful Employee of the Month feature, giving standout layers a little recognition without losing the practical flock-management tools. Personalized visual options make the app more approachable than a plain spreadsheet.
Egg production statistics and trends
Once you have daily entries, Eggsy becomes more than a counter. Its statistics and history tools can show laying rate, average eggs per day and monthly production patterns.
Use these trends to compare production before and after changes in feed, housing or flock composition. Egg counts alone cannot diagnose illness, nutrition problems or stress, but they can tell you when to look more closely.
Remember seasonal daylight changes, flock age, molt and weather can all affect laying; interpret the numbers with context rather than assuming every decline is a problem.
Feed costs, egg sales and profitability
Eggs are not free just because they come from your own backyard. Feed, bedding, supplies and replacement equipment can add up, and sales or household egg value may offset some costs. Eggsy helps record expenses and income to estimate feed cost per dozen and overall flock profitability.
As a simple example: if you spend $40 on feed while collecting 160 eggs, your feed-only cost per dozen is $3.00 ($40 ÷ 160 × 12). That doesn't include labor, coop construction, bedding, veterinary care or other expenses.
For a closer look at the math, read our feed cost per dozen eggs guide.
AI breed scanner and breed guide
Eggsy includes an AI Breed Scanner & Guide presented as an alpha feature. It lets you photograph a bird and compare suggested identification with a built-in guide, including additional clues such as breed traits and egg color.
Photo-based breed recognition can be uncertain, especially with mixed breeds, young birds, poor lighting and lookalike breeds. Treat any scanner result as a suggestion, not definitive identification, and cross-check against reliable physical characteristics and known breeding history.
CSV exports, backup and personal customization
Eggsy can export egg logs and hen information as CSV files, useful if you want to analyze trends in a spreadsheet or retain a copy beyond the app.
Backup and restore options support keeping your flock records safe, including local and supported Drive workflows. Review backup contents and test restoration before changing phones or clearing app storage; an export of egg counts alone is not necessarily a full app backup.
Personal touches—including font choices and seasonal presentation—let you tailor the experience without getting in the way of daily records.
